Relocating - Before and After

The Last 24 Hours
- Finish packing or storing any possessions that have not yet been attended
too.
- Confirm and/or pick-up any vehicles or equipment needed if this is
a self-move.
- If you are not moving yourself make certain your vehicle(s) and /or
travel arrangements are in good order along with any funds needed for
you move.
- Say good bye to all those you may be leaving behind.
How To Pack Intelligently And Avoid Disaster
- Gather all the supplies needed:
- Boxes
- Old newspapers
- Tape
- Cord or strapping
- Bubble wrap and or foam pellets
- Padding
- Pallets if you have some very large items such as furniture or
appliances
- Labels and markers
- Cutter or scissors
- Make a list and catalog your possessions by room and then by box or
piece. Include, if possible, the room in your new home for each box
or item to be delivered to.
- Try to visualize which items will be put into to each box. Try to
minimize the amount of boxes and space that you will require for all
of your possessions. This makes it all so much easier and far less costly.
- Separate and clearly mark all valuable or fragile items from the rest
and set them aside to be moved and arranged within the moving vehicle
as a group. Photograph anything of value that you may need to make
an insurance claim for if broken or lost during your move.
- Try to disperse the heavy items evenly throughout your packing to
lessen the burden of moving each box or item and to insure the boxes
do not break or open.
- Set aside, and pack all personal items and cloths, needed during the
move, for you and your family. This may include a few days supply at
your new destination if you know that you will not be able to unpack
your belongings quickly or if you happen to arrive before the balance
of your possessions do.
